Well I said I’d revisit Nylsvley, which is exactly what I did today.
Very much a repeat of my first visit some 7 weeks ago, although fewer numbers of ducks about. The larger water(ish) birds are much more evident this trip – Squacco Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Black-headed Heron, Black Heron, Little Heron, Grey Heron, Purple Heron, Great Egret, Little Egret, African Sacred Ibis and African Spoonbill. One duck that I did add to last time’s list was White-backed Duck. Only my second sighting of this one and my first photographs.
Best photographs of the day were of White-browed Sparrow-Weaver, Pale Flycatcher, Amur Falcon, Great Egret, Little Egret, Purple Heron, White-backed Duck, Red-billed Teal and Lilac-breasted Roller. The last one has just got to be South Africa’s most photogenic and most photographed bird.
